Campaign for Common Sense
Ed Priola believes in:
Placing term limits on all elected officials.
Many politicians have been in office for decades. They have lost touch with what it means to live under the laws they pass for the rest of us. Periodically, we need new blood and ideas in government. Term limits accomplishes this.
Returning Maryland to a business-friendly state that once again creates jobs.
Despite record-high stimulus spending, Maryland has lost many jobs recently. We must create new jobs and keep existing ones in the state by giving employers a chance to compete. Small businesses create most of the jobs in America (and 70% of the businesses in Howard County have less than 10 employees). Supporting them should be first our priority.
Dramatically reducing state and local taxes.
Our working families are simply tapped out. Maryland taxpayers pay $5,669 per capita in state and local taxes (Maryland's estimated tax burden of 10.8% of income ranks 4th highest in the United States). Government must become far more efficient. We must stop balancing the budget on the backs of Maryland employees and their families.
On January 8, 2010, Ed Priola signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, committing to "oppose and vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes."
Bringing full transparency and accountability to Maryland government.
Lawmakers must read the bills they vote on—and let us read them too. I support the creation of a fully-transparent television system that covers all state and local government activities (like C-SPAN). Let’s remind politicians that they work for us.
